Eating

There are food courts in the numerous shopping centres, and side streets near the square serve some of the best warung food .

Ahong , Jl Kebon Kawang. Chinese place serving kangkung (water spinach) and sapi (beef) hotplate (Rp9500).

London Bakery , Jl Braga. Specializing in a range of coffees and teas, this is a modern European-type place with newspapers and books in English.

Penineungan Indah , Jl Tubagus Ismail Raya 60. One of the best Sundanese restaurants there is; each table is in a private room around gardens and ponds from which your dinner is fished. The ikan mas steamed in banana leaves is a speciality.

Queen , Jl Dalem Kaum 79. Superb Cantonese food and a great value set menu: for Rp15,000 you get soup, sweet-and-sour pork, chicken soy, shrimps in a nut sauce, veggies, rice and fruit.

Sari Sunda , Jl Sukarno Hatta 479 and Jl Jenderal Sudirman 103-107. Two branches, both serving superb Sundanese food: tofu baked with chilli is excellent.

Tizis , Jl Kidang Pananjung 3, off Jl Juanda, just north of the large bemo stop. An expat haven serving possibly the best homemade bread, sausages and pastries in Java.
