Sintang
As an overnight stop between Pontianak and Putussibau, Sintang , on the confluence of the Kapuas and Melawai rivers, is ideal. Accommodation is clean and fairly inexpensive, and the city is lively and friendly. There are buses to and from Pontianak and Putussibau, as well as boats to Puttussibau. Sintang's bus and bemo stations, as well as hotels and restaurants, are all within walking distance of each other, on the southern side of the Kapuas to the west of the Melawai. The best-value hotels are on the waterfront, 150m due north of the bus station. The Sesean, at Jl Brigjen Katamso 1 (tel 0565/21011; under $5), is cheerful and popular; just behind it, the Setian, Jl Brigjen Katamso 78 (tel 0565/21611; under $5), is one of the cheapest in town, but has no fans. Better value is the Safary, a little further south on Jalan Kol Sugiano (tel 0565/21776; under $5), where doubles come with a fan and TV.
